TOPIC: GOD FIRST

Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30

Outline: God first means the totality of our being subject to God. Not some part of you. Man is a spirit, has a soul and lives in a body. To be fruitful in this life and the next this tripartite nature of man must first and always fully submit to God—Matt 6:33, 1 John 2:17. This is the meaning of life. Do you know that the commandments of God are our very life? Yes it is! Deut. 32:46-47, Deut. Chapter 6. This is what the Lord Jesus meant. When we put God first it allows for the nature of God to influence our mentality producing a God-like character which fulfills the second most important commandment which is to love your neighbor as yourself—Mark 12:31. For when the nature of God which is Love is inside you it will produce Love for others. This act of Love is what draws men to Christ.

FOCUS POINT:
Mark 12:28-34
Luke 12:13-21

PRAYER POINT

What Is Halloween & Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

Beloved, Halloween originally Allhalloween observed on Oct. 31, means All Hallows Eve or Evening before All Saints Day celebrated on Nov. 1. It is now a holiday celebrated with pumpkins, candy, treats, horror masks, ghosts and even acts akin with witchcraft.

Many do not know but it is also a sacred holiday for Wiccans which is the official religion of witchcraft. During the Roman Empire it was the practice to give out fruits and other kinds of foods (today’s treats has replaced that) on Oct. 31, in preparation for the festival of the Roman goddess pomona on Nov. 1. This too started about the 1900s in parts of Europe such as England and France. Until the arrival of St. Patrick and other missionaries these pagan practices was prevalent in the area. Today a lot of ancient pagan practices now disguised has also been incorporated into the church.

Now should we as Christians join in the celebration? First it is important as believers to approach matters through the lens of the Bible. What does the bible say?

Deuteronomy 18:10-13 & Leviticus 20:26-27 shows us that God abhors witchcraft or forms of it. We see in Romans 13:12, that we should cast off works of darkness and put on the armour of light and in 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 the Bible tells us to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers and to separate ourselves and not touch the unclean thing and God will be a Father to us. We see also in Ephesians 5:10-11, that we should prove what is acceptable to God and have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them.

So, therefore, brethren, I encourage you to enjoy your holidays in the fear of God and abstain from things as such mentioned above. Guide your children with this message. Advise your family with this teaching. Indulging yourselves with costumes that depict satan and demons or death only attract forces of evil and give satan a foothold to work all manners of evil. Many have been attacked with spirits of fear, panic, depression etcetera through such means. That is not your portion in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Halloween as practiced today is essentially pagan worship and the Lord’s church (RFC) does not encourage nor support its practice. The motive must be clear. We encourage good family time of happiness and Godly friendship and sharing with others the Blessings of Christ.
